Choose the Left….or was it Right?
So far this vacation has been great. Today we drove from St. Louis to Nashville and saw the Temple there. We then drove on to Fairfield Glade and will be staying here for the next week. The resort looks great and it should be a lot of fun.
In the last four days we’ve driven over 1900 miles. Needless to say we’re a bit exhausted.
As many of you already know, my mind races a mile a minute. It’s usually full of memories. Little things will set me off and remind me about something. No matter where I go something will trigger a memory.
This trip has done nothing but trigger memories for me. When I was about 14 my family took a very similar trip. We drove from Salt Lake to Nauvoo (in a couple of days) met some family members there and spent quite a bit of time with them, in fact we ended up back at their home in Memphis.
We spent a few days with them there then drove home. While on this trip so far, we’ve driven many of the same roads and saw many of the same things. In fact, when we stopped for lunch in North Platte the other day, I saw a “Trading Post” store that is still there from that trip. That store is where I bought many of the pins that I put on a map of the U.S. and is how I track which states I’ve been in. For the record, I will go in two new states on this trip, West Virginia (though my parents warn us to avoid Wheeling) and Indiana.
While driving from St. Louis to Nashville there was an exit (several actually) that gave me the choice, Nashville or Memphis. If I went left I would end up in one of them and right would put me in the other. Several times I was tempted to go to Memphis and go to Corky’s, err… I mean visit my Aunt, Uncle and cousins there 
Sadly, we’re still out of Corky’s BBQ sauce at home though. Something that will be corrected as soon as we return home.
