I tend to grow my finger nails out longer than then typical male does.  I do it mostly because if i cut them short I find that they tend to tear and break which only causes lots of painful hang nails and such.  So I leave them a little longer, but this is a bit long for me. I feel bad that she lost them, but think about the freedom she now has.  I can't imagine the issues that they must have caused in her life.  I also don't understand how things like this don't cause people to go broke.
