Annoying Ad Campaign...

I've been hearing this annoying radio spot lately.  It's an obnoxious "yell sale" type guy talking about how you can practice making an embarrassing phone call from jail because you received a DUI.  It's the 1-877-Jail-Fon Ads.  It's obnoxious on so many levels, but I remembered it and here I am talking about it so it must have been effective in some way, especially since I don't drink and thus the likelihood of me getting a DUI are pretty slime (unless of course consuming too many ounces of Chocolate Milk can somehow impair ones ability to drive). Now I find out that UHP is part of the force behind it and I'm honestly wondering who signed off on those marketing funds.

I like this!

I think this for a couple of reasons. The first being that I was at the midnight showing last night (well technically this morning) with my children.  I'm not a Harry Potter fan, but my kids are and I thought that they would enjoy it.  I've seen exactly one other Harry Potter movie and that was because we saw it as a company at my previous employer.  I had to keep asking my son to who the different characters were. After working all day yesterday, a full evening of meetings, Harry Potter throughout most of the night, 3.5 hours of sleep and working all day today, I'm exhausted. The other part that I really like about that link is that I currently work for the LHM Group of Companies and I really like to see our companies do well.  So to see that we had 1/3 of the top 15 Theaters in the nation for the Harry Potter opening is awesome. Now, I'm going to bed.

Signs of recovery or Desperation?

For Father's day I received a Home Depot gift card from my In Laws, which honestly is always one of my my needed gifts, because I've always got some project that I need something at Home Depot for. What came with the gift card is what is intriguing to me.  It had a "Free" 3/16" drill bit attached to it.  Anytime I see any company giving out any kind of product for free I flash back to the Dot Com era where it seemed that companies were giving away "Free" product left and right and I wonder what's just around the corner, is a recovery here or are we about to sink further into this "Economic Slowdown".  At least I got a free drill bit out of it.

And yet people continue to produce stuff like this...

I've ranted about web ads here quite a bit.  Not that my rants have any affect on what people produce, but I can't believe some of the garbage that is cranked out and passed off for advertising. While I have personally noticed a reduction in the total number of annoyance ads that either pop-up, pop-under, or float over a page that I'm viewing I have noticed an increase in the text based ads.  Usually they are pretty simple with a small image, some basic text and a short link. My beef with them is that they are just as annoying as the other types of ads.  The one that I'm seeing all the time is the "Jiggly Fat" one.  It makes my kids laugh, but I think that it's just plain stupid (sorry that's a "Naughty" word in our house) just plain "lame". Then again, maybe I do have a bunch of "Jiggly Fat" that I need to lose and the agency that produced these ads have developed technology to only display it to people like me who really need to lose said "Jiggly Fat", but I know for a fact that I don't need a "Colon Cleanser".  One Colonoscopy per lifetime is enough thank you very much.
