Argh, this bothers me!

Okay, so I don't usually rant and rave about Politics.  I have opinions, but a lot of the time I keep them to myself or share them sparingly.  It's just who I am, and I think that it's mostly because I hate the current state, which I see as mostly finger pointing and name calling and not enough problem solving.  Which usually throws logic and reason out the window. There's been a lot in the media lately about the speech delivered by President Obama this morning to the school children throughout the country.  It's caused quite an uproar, which I think is ridiculous. I completely agreed with my friend Nichole's comments here (and even my own response to her post).  What a great chance to talk to your children and to this schools that opted out.  Your students missed out on a great chance to hear the President of the United States speaking directly to them, the youth of America. You can see the text of his speech here (looks pretty controversial doesn't it?).

Pretty Cool Column

I'm not much of a column reader.  I don't usually like the way that the writer throws in all kinds of jabs and opinions.  Some are worse than others and even some columns are worse than others from the same writer, but I really liked todays columnby Doug Robinson in the Deseret News. I'm always impressed by the people who no matter what their situation, they are thinking of others first.  Whether it's $5.00 or $5,000,000 to me it's the same if it's given in a spirit of truly trying to help people and make life better for them. I don't mean opening your wallet to every homeless person with a sign that you pass, but really trying to find ways that you can help make peoples lives better.  Not only for those to whom you serve by giving, but by also helping to inspire others to step up and give also. The movie Pay It Foward really kind of hit the nail on the head.  Do something proactive for someone, then hopefully they are inspired to do something proactively for someone else, and so on.

I have an idea...

Ok, maybe this is just my own (lame-ish) attempt at getting on the show, but this article has inspired me a bit. Maybe the producers of The Amazing Race should sponsor a "Minor Leagues" of sorts for getting on their show.  They could do a bunch of smaller regional races that the local tourism councils could help put together, the local television stations could help film, edit, produce and broadcast it. Then they could consider that the "Auditions" for the main show.  Pick several of the contestants from the regional shows and put them on the main show. The best part is that the local tourism councils could take some of the footage and use it for their Advertising, etc.  They would also get a bunch of exposure as they run an American Idol like national lead up show that features each of the regional races in a few of the different locations and such. See it's brilliant (OK, maybe only in my own little mind).
